The words health and nutrition are very common terms that people hear every day. People talk about these terms, people share ideas about these terms, but what connection does nutrition really have with health? What is health and what is nutrition?
In finding the connection of health and nutrition, first, both terms should be defined separately, starting with health. Health is the level of metabolic efficiency of living beings. It is also considered as the level of functionality of a living being. When talking about the human being, health is considered as the general condition of an individual’s mind, body and spirit. Being healthy is usually described as being free from illness, injury and pain. The WHO or also known as the World Health Organization defines health as, “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. Since health and nutrition is both the main idea of this article, here is the description of nutrition. Nutrition has been known to be defined as the provision to cells and organisms in the form of food to support a living being’s life. Many common health problems to man can be prevented with a healthy diet, which means getting the proper nutrition for the body. The food that is talked about here is called nutrients. The six major classes of nutrients are carbohydrates, fats, minerals, proteins, vitamins and water. These six major classes are also divided into two groups, the macronutrients which consist of the carbohydrates, fats, water and protein, and the micronutrients which is consisting the minerals and vitamins.
So since the definition of these terms are now defined, the connection between the two-health and nutrition- with each other. One, is in order to maintain the proper health or in other words make the people healthy, a certain individual should look into the nutrition that he or she is currently in and adjust it until there will be a healthy diet. The maintenance or the promotion of the so called health is achieved by doing and practicing a different array of combinations of physical, mental and social well-being which is sometimes referred to as the health triangle. Since the health triangle has the physical aspect in it, this, the nutrition of the body of a certain individual will really affect the health of the said individual. Nutrition would also branch down to diet, in order to get a good nutrition for a healthy body; human beings should have a balanced diet. A balanced diet is where all the nutrients needed by the body for the daily consumption should be taken by the body.
Health and nutrition should really be given much attention by the human beings because these two are inter related. In order to get a healthy body, nutrients should be taken by the body. These nutrients should not be less than the body needs nor should it be more than what the body needs but rather just enough for the healthy body that human beings need to have.
